In July of 2015, the Eidos Centre experts voluntarily moderated a series of public hearings on the reconstruction of three parks in Kyiv (Syretskyi Park, Solomyanskyi Park and Berezovyi Hai). The hearings were initiated by the Department for Urban Planning and Architecture of the Kyiv City State Administration in order to promote transparency of the local government institutions.
Throughout the discussions, the locals worked in groups and developed a list of problems. They also offered their ideas for the park planning and added them to a sketch map. Later, the group representatives presented the results of their work to the other locals. The Department for Urban Planning and Architecture experts from the Kyiv City State Administration took the discussion results into consideration when deciding on the final reconstruction plan. Many ideas of the locals have already been implemented within the parks.
The Centre’s system of holding public hearings was later used by the Kyiv City State Administration for other city parks. We hope that a transparent dialogue between the locals and the State Administration will continue and intensify.
